The Butchart Gardens some 13 miles from Victoria cover, over 25 acres of a 130 acre estate, and are the outstanding attractions in the Pacific Northwest. It contains the Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, Italian Garden, Star Pond, Concert Lawn, and Show Greenhouse.

The Sunken Garden was created by the Butcharts on the sight of their abandoned limestone quarry. Each season brings delights: azaleas, tulips, daffodils, and other delicate blossoms in spring; breathtaking roses, annuals and perennials in summer; bursts of colorful foliage in autumn; and crisp strolls in winter. Subtle colored lighting illuminates the gardens June 15 through September 30; from December 6 to January 6 they sparkle with festive lights and decor.
